The aluminium extrusion sector consists of a significant number of businesses, considering the domestic market. The main product which comes from the manufacturing units of aluminium extrusion is the architectural profile, which is used to make aluminium frames. Furthermore, over the last years many businesses have enriched the variety of their products with photovoltaic system goods. Some companies have developed strong export activity. The domestic production of extrusion goods involves few manufacturers, while the largest part of production is exported to various countries.
The overall domestic production of aluminium extrusion products (in tons) reported a significant development up to 2007. Nevertheless, during 2008-2012 it registered a fall of an average annual rate of approximately 10%. The large fall in demand slowed down due to the new demand for products used for the installation of photovoltaic systems.
Domestic production of rolling products registered a rise during 1995-2007 with an average annual rate of 6% while during 2008-2009 it registered a slight decline. On the contrary, during 2010-2012 production reported a significant rise, due to the increasing demand for exports.
