SUMMARY

A large number of businesses operate in the sector of plastic pipes manufacturing (polyethylene, flexible PVC), having a significant production capacity. Furthermore, importers also operate in the market, most of which are also involved in the trade of a wide variety of goods (e.g. plumping supplies and tap fittings, central heating products etc.).
The overall domestic production of plastic pipes increased by 4% in 2018 compared to 2017. The domestic market (consumption) of plastic pipes has recovered in recent years, while it has registered a rise of 3.3% in 2018compared to 2017.
Demand is mostly covered by locally produced pipes, while import penetration is low (ranging from 16% to 18% in recent years). Exports reported a slight increase.
In 2018 plastic pipes made from polyethylene had a share of almost 49.1% in the total domestic consumption. The rigid and flexible PVC pipes had a share of 38.4% and 12.5% respectively.
