BOOK PUBLISHING

The sector of book publishing in Greece consists of a large number of businesses, which are involved in the publication or/and imports of books. Some of these businesses are also involved in other activities (such as magazine and newspaper publishing, booklet printing, graphic art). The sector is characterized by intense geographical concentration of the publishing companies in the region of Attica.
The largest part of the domestic book market is covered by Greek publications. However, in certain book categories imports have a significant presence. Exports are on a low level in general.
The total value of the domestic book market registered a fall since 2008, especially in the years 2011/12. During 2013-2014 the decline decelerated in the book-publishing market, as the total value of the market slightly decreased, by 1.3%, in 2014.
