The sector of aluminium door and window frames and mainly the manufacturing sector, is characterized by the presence of a large number of companied, the majority of which are small sized. Most of the small businesses do not have their own commercial network, as they operate mainly locally. On the contrary, large companies own showrooms and have also developed organized networks of dealers in order to meet the needs of the domestic market. The evolution of the sector has been directly associated with the evolution of building activity.
Overall production of aluminium frames registered a fall of 8.8% in 2020 compared to 2019, while a rise is expected for 2021. The appearance of the coronavirus in Greece along with the consequent measures (lockdown) taken to limit its spread halted the upward trend of the sector in the previous years. The domestic market dropped by 9.2% in 2020 compared to the 2019. The sector’s import penetration has been low over time (0.6%-2.2%).
