The market of Third Party Logistics followed an upward trend from 2016 onwards, after a period of continuous decline (2009-2015). In particular, in 2018 the market value increased by 4.5% compared to 2017. A further rise is estimated for 2019 (annual rise of 5.4%).
Storage & warehousing services (including cold-storage as well) and distribution services jointly accounted for approximately 94% of the overall value of 3PL services in 2018.
As regards the breakdown of the market per product category, foods and drinks gained the lion’s share with 43% in 2018. “Vehicles and spare parts” and “electronic equipment and related supplies” followed with 9% each. “Clothing and footwear” and “medicines, parapharmaceuticals and medical equipment”. had a share of 7%. “industrial products & raw material” and “furniture and household equipment” had a share of 7% and 6% each respectively.
