THIRD PARTY LOGISTICS

The decline in demand for 3PL services led to a gradual decline in market value, which lost almost ¼ of its value over the period 2016/2008 (a cumulative decrease of 24% in 2008-2016).However, in 2016 the market value registered a marginal rise of 0.6% compared to 2015. A slight rise is estimated for 2017.
The sector of Third Party Logistic services (3PL) in Greece consists of a significant number of companies, some of them being exclusively engaged in the above activities, while others are also operating as freight forwarders.
Storage & warehousing services (including cold-storage as well) accounted for approximately 59% of the overall value of 3PL services in 2016, followed by distribution services which had a share of approximately 34%.
As regards the breakdown of the market per product category, foods and drinks gained the lion’s share with approximately 44% in 2016. Electronic equipment and related supplies, furniture and household equipment, medicines, medical equipment and other consumer products (personal hygiene products etc.) followed with 7%. Clothing and footwear had a share of 6%. Industrial products & raw material and electronic appliances had a share of 5% each.
