The sector of private security services consists of few large companies, while the majority of businesses are small sized. In Greece, 1,531 businesses had an operating license for providing security services, according to law 3707/2008 (December 2017 data).
The market of private security services (in value) was on the rise during 1998-2010. A for year-recession period followed during which the sector lost 26.6% of its cumulative value (2014/10). However, the downward trend was temporarily halted in 2015 as the market registered a slight rise (+0.3%). In 2016 the value of the total market for private security services is estimated to have remained stagnant.
Aviation Security services accounted for 8.5% of the total market value in 2016, the remaining security services (guards, property guarding) accounted for 55.4%, cash-in transfers and transfers of valuable objects accounted for approximately 12% and electronic security systems (including signal receiving station services) accounted for 22.4%.
The total sales of electronic security systems (of the companies engaged in importing and marketing these) have registered a rise of 3.8% in 2016 compared to 2015. The market is estimated to follow an upward trend in 2017 as well.
