PRIVATE SECURITY SERVICES - ELECTRONIC SECURITY SYSTEMS

The sector of private security services consists of few large companies, while the majority of businesses are small sized. In Greece, 1.739 businesses had an operating license for providing security services, according to law 3707/2008 (August 2014 data). Security services are offered to the public and private sector, to banks and individuals. Moreover, commercial firms also operate in the wider sector which only import and market electronic security systems, without offering any services (e.g. guarding, alarm signal receiving station etc.).
The market of private security services (company revenues) was on the rise during 1998-2010, with an average annual growth rate of 17.5%. However, from 2011 onwards the market has been in decline. Particularly, in 2012 and 2013 the total value dropped by 9.6% and 7.5% respectively. The decline is estimated to continue in 2014 as well.
Aviation Security services accounted for 8% of the total market value in 2013, the remaining security services (guards, property guarding) accounted for 54.2%, cash-in transfers and transfers of valuable objects accounted for 13.8% and electronic security systems (including signal receiving station services) accounted for 22.2%.
