SUMMARY

A large number of businesses operate in the sector of plastic pipes manufacturing (polyethylene, flexible PVC), having a significant production capacity. Furthermore, importers also operate in the market, most of which are also involved in the trade of a wide variety of goods (e.g. plumping supplies and tap fittings, central heating products etc.).
The overall domestic production of plastic pipes dropped by 3.3% in 2020 compared to 2019. The domestic market (consumption) of plastic pipes registered a fall of 4.1% in 2020 compared to 2019. Demand is mostly covered by locally produced pipes, while import penetration is low (ranging from 16% to 20% in recent years).
In 2020 rigid PVC pipes had a share of almost 34.9% in the total domestic consumption. Pipes made from polyethylene accounted for 52.4% while flexible PVC pipes had a share 12.7%.
