The overall consumption of petroleum products registered a fall during 2010-2016 at an average annual rate of 5%. In 2015 however the decline was halted but in 2016 the total consumption of petroleum products slightly dropped (by 0.3%) compared to 2015.
Fuel consumption in the “domestic” market accounted for approximately 67% of the overall consumption, while it registered a slight fall (0.8%) during 2016/15, mainly due to the fall of heating oil. Fuel consumption in the “International” Market (Aviation and Marine use) accounted for 33% of total consumption.
Automotive diesel had the largest share in the total fuel consumption in 2016, having a share of 24.5%. Gasoline accounted for 22.7%, marine fuel oil for 21.9%, heating oil for 11.2%, and aviation fuels for 11.0%.
In 2016 exports (in quantity) registered a rise of 12.3% compared to 2015.
