LIQUID AND GASEOUS FUELS

The domestic market of petroleum products operates at three levels (refinery, wholesale and retail trade). The demand of crude oil in Greece is covered almost exclusively by imports. As regards the refining level, there are two domestic oil refiners.
The overall consumption of petroleum products in the Greek market (for domestic and “international” use), registered a fall during 2008-2014 at an average annual rate of -7.1%. In 2014 however the decline was halted and total consumption of petroleum products was stabilized at the same level as in 2013. Fuel consumption in the “domestic” market accounted for 68% of the overall market, while fuel consumption in the “international” market (Aviation and Marine use) accounted for the remaining.
Gasoline had the largest share in the total fuel consumption in 2014, having a share of 24%. Motor oil (auto-diesel) accounted for 23%, marine fuel oil for 18%, heating oil for 11%, etc. Furthermore, exports registered a considerable rise as regards most categories in 2014. The main destination of exports was Turkey (25% of total fuel exports).
