Currently 45 audit firms operate in the sector of audit services in Greece, while legitimate (statutory) auditors amount to 1,200. Several small and medium sized audit firms have been established from 2012 onwards.
Total sales of all audit companies slightly increased by 0.5% in 2016 compared to 2015. Revenues from statutory audit services accounted for 67.2% of the total sales in 2016 (part of those revenues relate to sales abroad).
Revenues from other audits and services provided accounted for the remaining 32.8% of the total sales of audit companies. Those sales refer to revenues emerging from optional controls, tax audits, consulting services, accounting services, other auditing work, as well as revenues from non-audit work (e.g. revenues from liquidations and court proceedings, conversion-merger-absorption, seminars, transaction services etc.).
